What we believe...
Sanctuary is a safe place to develop our faith and to explore what it means to be a Christian.
In order to help us along the way, there are some basic core beliefs that we profess:
We believe that the Scriptures (the Bible) are inspired by God and declare His design and plan for humankind. It is our guide throughout this journey and the foundation for everything that we do, both in the church and in relation to those outside the church.
We believe that there is only One True God – revealed in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (The Trinity) Although He might have many names which reveal the many dimensions and facets of His character, God is One.
We believe that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, was both fully human and fully divine. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, was resurrected from the dead, and exalted to the right hand of God.
We believe that, though originally good, humankind willingly fell to sin, ushering in evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world. People are incapable of restoring fellowship with God by their own merits.
We believe that every person can have restored fellowship with God by trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our personal Savior (salvation).
We practice two ordinances: (1) Water baptism by immersion after repenting of one’s sins and receiving Christ’s gift of salvation, and (2) Holy Communion (The Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation.
We believe that the gift of the Holy Spirit is a special experience following salvation. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church. With it comes the endowment of power for life and service, the bestowment of the spiritual gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry.
We believe that the church has a mission to seek and save all who are lost in sin. We believe that the “Church” is the Body of Christ and consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God’s offer of redemption (regardless of denomination) through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.
